Coal Creek is a residential community, located in Eastern Fremont County, southwest of the Town of Florence. It resides in a beautiful natural setting, with Pikes Peak to the northeast, the Wet Mountains to the south southwest, and the Royal Gorge to the west. Coal Creek enjoys access to the larger towns of Pueblo to the east, Colorado Springs to the northeast, and Canon City to the west. As of 2007, Coal Creek had grown by 16.5% from the year 2000.
Coal Creek community members value that Coal Creek is a close knit community with a rural, small town feel. People feel safe and secure, enjoy the benefits of proximity to larger towns while living in a small town, appreciate the low traffic levels and the low cost of living, and value the fresh air, peacefulness, quiet, and beautiful natural setting which offers access to a variety of recreational amenities. Citizens indicated that their current slow pace of growth in Coal Creek is desirable and should be maintained in order to preserve all of the characteristics described above. Citizens enjoy their close proximity to larger towns like Canon City, Florence, Pueblo and Colorado Springs but would like to attract small retail or commercial services to their community (i.e., small convenience store, restaurant, country store but no franchises).
