Florence, Colorado is a town of character and grit that began with the migration of Spanish – French trappers, explorers and pioneers who joined the Native Americans, mainly Utes who were inhabiting this area. Soon, the town bustled with the activities that made the west legendary. Stagecoaches, wagon lines, and 3 railroads served this high mountain desert agricultural region picking up supplies, serving our neighboring coal towns. In 1898 the 2nd oil well in the USA was discovered here, still pumping today. Florence is a town that rediscovers itself when times got hard.
